On July 19, 2016 at approximately 1914 hours, Harford County Fire Communications began receiving 911 calls reporting a house on fire in the 4800 block of Philadelphia Road. Chief 4-1, Truck 431 and Engine 411 called en route with a visible column of smoke as they left the firehouse. Chief 4-1 (Drehmer) arrived with heavy fire showing from a single story house. Engine 411 stretched multiple lines to the front and rear of the residence and began to knock the bulk of the fire. Truck 431 and Engine 213 (Aberdeen Fire Department) entered the home via the front door for an interior attack.
Crews from Abingdon, Aberdeen, Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company and Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire and Emergency Services operated on scene for approximately 2 hours. No injuries were reported to fire crews or civilians but two family pets perished in the blaze. The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal determined the fire to be accidental as a result of two neighborhood children playing with a cigarette lighter.
